It has been an astounding success for Hattingley Valley in this year’s wine competitions. The entire team are thrilled that their hard work and dedication in creating quality English sparkling wines has paid off. The tally for 2016 stands at 1 trophy, 6 gold medals (with 2 best in class), 10 silver medals and 2 bronze medals. This is a 100% success rate for Hattingley Valley with every wine entered into six of the top wine competitions being awarded a medal.

With the immense success of our first ever rosé (2011 vintage) winning the top accolade of Best Vintage Rosé at The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships in 2014, there was pressure on our second release (2013 vintage), to be equally as exquisite. Our winemakers were delighted with the result and were convinced it was just as good, if not better. It appears that the judges agreed!

The first awards competition that the 2013 Rosé entered was the Sommelier Wine Awards where it took home a gold medal. Winemaker Jacob Leadley commented “this award makes us particularly proud given it’s the best Sommeliers judging the wines and they are the ones championing our wines face to face with consumers in bars and restaurants in a marketplace full of top quality wines so for this we are extremely grateful they enjoy the delicate style of Rosé we aspire to produce”.

At the recent English and Welsh Wine of the Year Competition our Rosé picked up a gold medal as well as the trophy for Most Outstanding Sparkling Rosé Wine at the awards ceremony. Hattingley Valley’s success didn’t end there for the night as Emma Rice was crowned their Winemaker of the Year. This is the second time Rice has won it and is the first woman to achieve this honour which she is delighted by.

With the success of the previous vintage Rosé in The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships the team had high hopes for a repeat performance and the results didn’t disappoint. Not only had the 2013 Rosé been awarded a gold medal, last night we learnt that it had won best in class for English Vintage Rosé. Emma Rice and Jacob Leadley attended and were thrilled with the result.

The Rosé also took home a further 2 silver medals and a silver outstanding in the International Wine and Spirit Competition.

Hattingley Valley’s latest vintage Blanc de Blancs is the 2011 vintage which will be released next week at Liberty Wines London Portfolio Tasting. The 2011 missed out on being entered into some of the competitions earlier in the year as it was still on its lees however it made a splash at the English and Welsh Wine of the Year Competition achieving a gold medal. It went onto being awarded another gold medal at The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships and at last night’s awards ceremony won best in class for English Future Release. Vineyard Assistant James Matyear says “it’s massive [to win awards] and great recognition to the team effort that goes into producing each and every bottle of Hattingley Valley sparkling wines.” With the news of the best in class he adds “it’s a fantastic reward for the Blanc de Blancs as it’s a limited production from our best Chardonnay grapes from our best plots.”

Hattingley Valley’s signature Classic Cuvée was also very successful and consistent this season. The current 2013 vintage gained 5 silver medals, 1 bronze medal and a gold medal in The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships in its magnum format.
