February started with us heading up to Villandry in London with our newly released 2013 vintage Rosé to take part in a tasting put on by Vineyards of Hampshire. Vineyards of Hampshire is a collective of seven vineyards from across the county working together to promote their wines to the public as well as to the trade. This was a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase the Rosé along with the rest of our portfolio to retailers and media. The tasting attracted over 50 key figures from the wine industry and was deemed a great success by all of the Vineyards of Hampshire members.

2011 Rosé success

With the immense success of our very first release Rosé there’s a pressure on our second release, the 2013 vintage, to be equally as exquisite. Our winemakers are delighted with the result and are convinced it is just as good, if not better! We cannot wait to enter the 2013 vintage into various industry awards to see how the 2013 vintage fares. To recap, the 2011 Rosé won the top accolade at the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships in 2014. For Hattingley Valley to be awarded a gold medal for our first ever Rosé was a huge achievement but to be crowned not only Best in Class but the World Champion Trophy too was beyond our wildest dreams!

Tasting Note

The 2013 Rosé has the elegance that Hattingley Valley strives for in the wines we produce. It has a fantastic initial bite of red fruit which softens as you enjoy the wine. Subtle and delicate in colour this is an elegant sparkling wine with an abundance of red fruit and fresh acidity, supported by fine toasty notes which have developed due to ageing on its lees in the bottle.

Food pairing

You can enjoy the 2013 Rosé on its own amongst good friends or family, however the wine is versatile enough to pair with a number of dishes. Our winemaker, Will Perkins, was recently on-board the ‘My Fair Lady’ to present Hattingley Valley wines to guests embarking on a romantic Valentine’s meal along Regents Canal. Arranged by London Shell & Co., guests enjoyed the 2013 Rosé accompanying a Cherrystone Clam Chowder, with the seafood provided by Wright Brothers.

Winemaking

The 2013 Rosé was blended from the finest Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier parcels with approximately 10% of the blend fermented in 4-5 year old Burgundy barrels. Before tirage, the winemakers blended the base wines with 4% red wine made from Pinot Noir Précoce to give a delicate soft pink colour and some vibrant red fruit flavours. The wine spent at least 18 months ageing on lees in the bottle before being disgorged with 8g/L dosage.
