Hampshire born Hattingley Valley named Afternoon Tea English Sparkling Wine of choice at London’s aqua shard restaurant
From 14th August 2017, aqua shard – the ninth highest restaurant in London – will introduce their very first English Sparkling Wine to their afternoon tea menu in the form of Hattingley Valley, the award-winning producer from Hampshire. The move coincides with the official 2017 Afternoon Tea Week, which takes place 14th-20th August and celebrates afternoon tea in venues UK wide. During this week, guests who opt for a glass of Hattingley with the afternoon tea menu, will receive a complimentary second glass.
Situated on the 31st floor of The Shard, London’s iconic 306m high building, aqua shard will serve Hattingley’s award-winning Classic Cuvée and so become the highest venue in the UK to offer English Sparkling Wine by the glass at an impressively breath-taking 140 metres.
Guests will be able to sample the height of luxury by way of the elegant and pure wine, hailed as the perfect aperitif or celebration drink. The toasty characteristics of the pale gold sparkling Cuvée will impeccably compliment such menu delicacies as the native lobster finger sandwich and vanilla scones.
2017 sees English Sparkling Wine reach a spectacular high, with demand reaching all corners of the globe. The growth of the English Sparkling Wine category, now producing over 5m bottles per year and hosting over 500 vineyards, has been phenomenal with the UK set to plant a record 1m vines this year.
Gareth Maxwell, Sales & Export Manager for Hattingley Valley, says:
“We are so pleased to offer Hattingley High Tea at aqua shard from next month. This is a great addition to our high-profile London listings which include The Oxo Tower, Bread Street Kitchen, London Shell Co, Zetter Townhouse and Harvey Nichols.”
Hattingley Valley was created by Simon Robinson, a successful, retired city lawyer who recognised England’s potential for premium quality sparkling. In a very short period of time, the winery became one of the UK’s largest, has won multiple trophies and medals and exports 40% of its wine around the globe. Simon is also a well-respected figure in the industry and is the Chairman of English Wine Producers. His head winemaker Emma Rice is the first woman to win the UKVA best winemaker of the year on two occasions.
